SUNDAY HOMILY OF 13TH WEEK OF ORDINARY TIME – YEAR B

HOMILY THEME: “WHO TOUCHED MY CLOTHES?”

BY: Fr. Cajetan Anyanwu

Wisdom 1:13-15, 2: 23 – 24; Ps. 30; 2 Corinthians 8: 7, 9, 13 -15; Mark 5: 21- 43

This is the 13th Sunday in ordinary time (Yr. B). God did not creat us to suffer or to die. “It was the devil’s envy that brought death into the world ” (Wis. 1:13-15ff). God made us to love and serve him in faith and good health. This is why the hand of faith is always singled out in the midst of the crowd. Jesus does not ignore the one who touches him with faith. Even when all hope is lost, Jesus restores hope. Both Jairus’ daughter and the woman in hemorrhage received attention because of faith.

Many people think that their prayers are heard only when they shout louder. Anywhere you are and call God in faith, your prayer is heard by him. The woman suffering from hemorrhage for 12 years touched Jesus with faith (cf. Mk. 5:21-43). Her trembling hand touched him like dripping ice amidst the crowd. Jesus was moved to asked. “Who touched my clothes.” The disciples were surprised at this question. The touching caused power to go out of Jesus. This is faith healing which came from faith-touching. She was healed instantly.

Jairus also called on Jesus with faith. Even when messengers came to inform him that his daughter was dead, he never despaired. Paul tells us that with faith “You always have the most of everything”(2Cor. 8:7ff). Seeing the faith of Jairus, Jesus went ahead to bring his child back to life. These two miracles are meant to teach us to be steadfast in faith. They teach us to maintain our identity amidst the crowd. Train your hand to touch Jesus with faith and your problem will be solved. Happy Sunday.
