HOMILY OF WEDNESDAY 13TH WEEK OF ORDINARY TIME – YEAR B
HOMILY THEME: CELEBRATING ST. THOMAS
BY: Bishop Gerald M. Musa
Feast of St. Thomas, Apostle. John 20:24-29
Thomas the Apostle, often known as ‘doubting Thomas,’ initially doubted the resurrection of Christ until he physically saw and touched Jesus. His insistence on tangible proof (“Seeing is believing”) reflects a common human tendency to doubt, shared by other prominent figures in scripture. Doubts can sometimes lead us to explore and seek deeper truths.

In our own lives, we may encounter moments of doubt, especially when we desire visible signs of God’s presence and love. However, faith often requires believing without seeing, as emphasized by St. Paul (“We live by faith, not by sight” – 2 Corinthians 5:7). When doubts arise, a simple prayer like “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!” (Mark 9:24) can be comforting.
The letter to the Hebrews defines faith as the assurance of things hoped for and the conviction of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1). Jesus blessed those who believe without needing physical proof. How often do we turn to God when doubts overwhelm us?
