HOMILY THEME: TEMPLE PURIFICATION

HOMILY: I would like to give you tips for reflection in the following points:

  1. Temple Prophecy: a temple is a dedicated place where the Lord dwells among his people. Malachi whose name means “messenger” identifies the Messiah with the temple. The first place he would appear would be the temple. He is coming as a messenger with fire of purification. This moment was called a day of purification. The prophet attests that Jesus was not impure as to be purified but he was the one to purify the temple. Three significant places in scripture where Jesus appeared in the temple – purification – as the first born son of God with the mission of cleansing. Finding in the temple – he was like a teacher of the truth. He dismantled the wisdom of the wise. Traders – drove them away. So he fulfilled the prophecy.

Expectation: Simeon and Anna were praying and fasting but suddenly Jesus was presented as a baby. yet God made Simeon see the Messiah in him. He was full of praise for God’s faithfulness.

Mother of Sorrows: he will be the sword to pierce your heart. Not that he would be a bad child but he is the sacrificial lamb chosen by God. Every good thing we receive with praise but when taken away causes us pain.

Poverty: God has provision for the poor: sparrows and dove were the poorest items. Do we still have a place for the poor in the churches today?
