HOMILY FOR WEDNESDAY OF THE THIRTY-FOURTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR A.

HOMILY THEME: THE END TIME

BY: Fr Benny Tuazon

HOMILY:
(Lk. 21:12-19)
In the day’s Gospel Jesus continues with the description of the end time. They are difficult days because they will be marked with calamities and other physical upheavals. There will also be wars among nations and within family members. No one would like to be in those days. Yet, they are inevitable. But Jesus tells us to see its best side. Instead of fear, we must be proud and joyful because our redemption is coming.

What is there to be proud of? As Jesus said, it will be the beginning of redemption. It will be our entrance into God’s glory. Like gold, we must be tested with fire. We must be purified and be worthy of heaven’s bliss. There is reason to cry and be in despair if nothing is beyond death. But we believe in life after death. Jesus gave us that Good News when He Himself resurrected. Death has no more sting. Eternal life answered the question of death.

We must be ready all the time. We treat each day as the last day of our lives. The end may come anytime. When that time comes, we can hold our head up high and welcome our redemption if we have lived according to the will of God.
