HOMILY FOR THE MEMORIAL OF OUR LADY OF THE ROSARY – 7TH OCTOBER

HOMILY THEME: THE ULTIMATE GOAL

BY: Benny Tuazon

HOMILY:

(Lk. 10:17-24)

Feast of the Holy Rosary

In the day’s Gospel the apostles came back from their mission joyful and victorious. They reported to JESUS their success particularly how the demons were subject to them. Jesus shared their joy but cautioned them that their goal is far beyond the conquer of evil but in becoming a part of God’s Kingdom. He further encouraged His disciples by pointing out to them their blessing of having seen and heard JESUS. Add to that experiencing His company and being chosen to be His disciples. Many would have wanted to be in their place. Much was expected of them.

To belong to the Kingdom, to have our names written in heaven, and to be in God’s favor are our ultimate goals. As we celebrate the feast of the holy rosary, we keep that in mind and heart.

The rosary is not a magic prayer which will instantly grant us our wishes. It is meant to help us meditate and reflect on the life and ministry of the Lord JESUS. In the process, we mirror our own lives with His life and teaching. Hopefully, we come to realize how much JESUS loves us and move us to love Him too!

The rosary is a powerful prayer in the sense that it makes us be still, reflective, appreciative what JESUS did, and utter the prayers like a mantra which help us take the prayers to heart. To many, it is a comforting and calming prayer. To others, it makes them remember the Lord always. While some feel protected by it.

Whatever is one’s immediate purpose why it is prayed, hopefully, it includes its vital meaning which is to know, love, and serve God. Mary recommended it for that purpose because she herself was graced by it.

Our Lady of the Holy Rosary!
Pray for us!
