HOMILY FOR THURSDAY JULY 21 2022

Jer.2:1-3,7-8,12-13; Matt.13:10-17

Have you ever met new friends? They always want opportunities to be together. New relationships are like new wine; they are absolutely intoxicating. There’s so much expectation, so much to discover, so much to explore, and so much to love. Someone once said that one can tell the kind of relationships two persons have just by looking at their disposition from afar. If you were standing in traffic, and you saw a car pass by with the couple inside it chatting and laughing, know they’re still courting. However, if the couple sat straight-faced and unsmiling, know that they’re already married.

Friends, where is the zeal we had for the things of God from the beginning? Where is the passion we used to feel when we pray and sing praises to God? Have we become like Israel was when she abandoned God and settled for broken cisterns? Have we heard too many homilies and reflections that we’re now afraid of seeing, listening, hearing, and acting? Let’s mend those broken relationships, and reconnect with God our Father. Let’s rediscover the affection we had from the beginning. May our hearts not grow dull, and may we come to realise how truly blessed we are to have heard and seen Jesus in the sacrifice of the Mass, and in the gift of himself to us in the Holy Eucharist. Amen.

Good morning dear. God bless your day ahead.
