HOMILY FOR THE MEMORIAL OF SAINTS TIMOTHY AND TITUS.

THEME: This little light will shine!

HOMILY FOR JANUARY 26TH.

2Tim. 1:1-8; Ps.96:1-3,7-8,10; Mark 4:21-25

A certain song comes to mind – “This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine, I’m gonna let it shine, I’m gonna let it shine. This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine, let it shine, let it shine, let it shine…” This song reminds us that none is so dark, that there can be no little light. Where people see darkness, God sees light. Remember Paul? We celebrated his conversion yesterday. Today, we celebrate two of his converts to Christianity; Timothy whom Paul entrusted the care of the Christians in Ephesus, and Titus, who looked after those in Crete.

Paul’s ministry among the Gentiles was so successful, one could never think this was the same Saul that had previously persecuted Christians. Friends, Timothy and Titus tapped from Paul’s anointing and were able to fan into flame the gift God gave them through the laying on of hands. We are called to do the same. Let’s not be ashamed of witnessing to the Lord – in the bus, at work, in the market and malls, at cinemas, in schools, everywhere. God’s spirit in us is not that of timidity, but of power, love and self control. Discover that little light, and let it shine.
