Oftentimes, we are tempted to do the things we want regardless of the moral standing behind it. Thoughts like “It’s my life, it’s my body, I’m not hurting anyone” come to play. We forget the part of the bible that says; “You must fear the LORD your God and serve Him” Deuteronomy 6:13.

HOMILY FOR SUNDAY MAY 29 2022

This is the 7th Sunday of Easter. Last Thursday we celebrated the glorious Ascension of the Lord into heaven. He ascended to the right hand of the Father interceding for us. He prayed that we may be one (Jn. 17:20-26). That is, he prayed for peace and unity among peoples. We cannot be one where there is no unity and peace.

Our oneness stems from our belief in the Trinity which is one God in three Persons. If we are one there would be no gap between the rich and the poor. There would be no discrimination. Those who have should help the poor. We see the faith of St. Stephen the proto martyr of the Church. Like Jesus, he forgave his enemies and prayed for them (Acts. 7:55-60). Let us forgive one another.

The vision of John in the book of the Apocalypse reveals that Jesus will come again. “Very soon now, l shall be with you again, bringing the reward to be given to every man according to what he deserves” (Rev.22:12-14ff). We are being admonished here to pray for unity and peace among us and among all nations. Love is the platform for peace and unity. May the Love of God bring us peace and make us one, amen. Happy Sunday.
