HOMILY FOR SUNDAY MAY 15 2022

Acts 14:21-27; Rev. 21:1-5; John 13:31-33,34-35

Today, I am moved to write something, especially in the wake of riots along ethnic and religious lines. Have you seen brothers betray brothers, wives poison their husbands, neighbours sell neighbours? Perhaps we saw a group of Muslim fanatics, murder a Christian, in cold blood in broad day light recently? That’s what happens when love goes wrong. In the gospel reading today, Judas had gone out to betray Jesus out of some selfish interest. But Jesus took that as an opportunity to teach his disciples a new commandment, ‘love one another as I have loved you…’

Friends, choosing to act in the best interest of another is difficult. But it’s near impossible when that someone we’re trying to love persecutes us on a daily basis. But we must not be discouraged because God is always doing a new thing. We are those who should against all odds, continue to usher in the news heavens and the new earths. The dwelling of God is with us. He will wipe our every tear and former things shall pass away. With hearts made up we must embrace the new commandment to love one another as Christ first loved us. We must forgive our persecutors and pray for them, knowing that they know not what they do, and leave vengeance entirely to God. Are you with me?

Good morning dear. Happy Sunday!
