HOMILY FOR THE 2ND SUNDAY OF ADVENT YEAR A .

THEME: “PREPARE A WAY FOR THE LORD”.

This is the 2nd Sunday of Advent. As we expect the coming of the Lord very soon, our preparations should be filled with integrity. The prophet Isaiah emphasized this when he says: “Integrity is the loincloth round his waist, faithfulness the belt about his hips ” (Is. 11:1-10). In our joy that the Lord is coming, let us not forget that his paths must be made straight. We do so by opening our hearts towards accepting one another as friends.

RELATED: HOMILY FOR THE 2ND SUNDAY OF ADVENT YEAR A

The coming of the Lord should bring peace to all nations. The wicked should stop their wickedness and embrace love. Those who believe in Christ must be Christ like. For Christ comes to dispel the darkness in our hearts and bring us joy. The Psalmist says: “In his days justice shall flourish and peace till the moon fails” (Ps 71:1-2ff) . We are all filled with the hope that the coming of the Lord will bring positive changes in our attitudes towards one another. Paul says: “It can only be to God’s glory, then, for you to treat each other in the same friendly way as Christ treated you” (Rom. 15:4-9).

The attitude expected of us this time we are
waiting for the Lord’s coming is to repent of our evil ways. We should pay attention to this:
“A voice cries in the wilderness: Prepare a way for the Lord, make his paths straight” (Mtt. 3:1-22).
The paths of the Lord are hidden in our hearts, eyes, tongues and mouths. Mind what you think about, be careful about what you look at, control your tongue and be careful of what you eat. Be the good child of God and not the chaff that will burn in fire. Happy preparations and happy Sunday.
