HOMILY FOR SATURDAY JULY 23 2022

(Memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary).

Jer. 7:1-11; Matt.13:24-30

Some of us turn God’s house to a transaction unit. It’s where we make business deals, double our investments and procure charms and amulets like ‘back to sender oil’ to ensure that our competitors die soon. This is unfortunate. What makes us think God does not see us, even inside His own Church? Today, the Prophet Jeremiah warns us not to steal, murder, commit adultery, lie under oath, and burn incense to other gods, while still pretending to come to Church. God sees all; He knows all.

Friends, it’s a ‘crazy’ world out there. However, we are called to bring some sanity to it by our way of life. It is true that the evil one has indeed sowed weed here and there to confuse and distract the labourers from recognising the good plants. But don’t be deceived. Evil seeds may thrive amidst the good now, but at harvest time, the chaff will be gathered up and burnt, while the wheat will go to the barn. May our Blessed Mother Mary intercede for us that through authentic worship, we might find a place in the Lord’s house, Amen.

Good morning dear. God bless your weekend.
