HOMILY FOR JANUARY 6TH.

1JOHN 5:5-13; MARK 1:7-11

Wise people say, “Life has no question that faith cannot answer.” We live in a turbulent world that is full of challenges and uncertainties, yet our faith keeps us moving. John the Evangelist says faith helps us overcome the world (1 John 5:5); A leper approached Jesus with a strong faith and was cured instantly. The Leper expressed his strong faith by coming to Jesus and by bowing and begging Jesus to cleanse him. Jesus responded by expressing his willingnesS to cure him and by touching the leper. Jesus did not only heal the leper physically but spiritually by restoring his relationship with the religious community. He also healed him socially by re-integrating him into a society that has banished him and declared him an outcast.

Jesus healed his body and spirit and restored his human dignity. We are all made of body and spirit and often, physical sickness touches the spirit when one is dispirited, disheartened, and discouraged. Faith in Jesus brings physical healing and spiritual cleansing. Like the leper, we too, need to approach Jesus in faith to be healed from our diseases and cleansed from our spiritual leprosies. Faith keeps the man who keeps his faith. Remember always, “The Lord is near to all who call upon him, to al who call upon him in truth. (Psalm 145:18). How strong is our faith in responding to the daily challenges of life?
